The summer and winter seasons differ by only a slight modification in temperature. Visitors coming to the Dominican Republic, almost any time of the year can expect to be handled with extended times of blue bright skies -- ideal weather for getting a pleasant tan. The most suitable time to go to Punta Cana is in the "cool" season from Nov to Apr. During these months, the weather is nicely warm with comparatively low levels of humidity and low rain. Temperatures along the coast are steady around 29C ( 84F ) during the daytime and fall to a snug 20C ( 68F ) at night. The "hot" season runs approximately from May to October when the average temperature rises to 31C ( 87F ) in the daytime and drops to about 22C ( 72F ) at night. But with the extreme humidity levels in this season, the temperature feels much warmer. Rains do bring some cessation from the heat during May through Aug, but typically this turns out to be no more than a 30-minute tropical shower. It is suggested that travelers pack light and include a large amount of cool and light fitting cotton garments. Notwithstanding such minimum difference between the temperatures in summer and winter, the climate has a tendency to change a lot from year to year because of the influence of the weather phenomena known as "El Nio" and "La Nia" amongst others. The best threat to the Dominican Republic comes from hurricanes. The Caribbean hurricane season lasts from June 1 to November thirty. Aug and Sep are the more hurricane-prone months. The major resorts became adept at getting back on their feet quickly after a hurricane. As in most tropical areas, in Punta Cana too the danger of mosquitoes looms enormous. The mosquitoes generally appear after dusk but they're seasonal and more obvious in the stormy season. Visitors are suggested to wear long, cushty cotton pants after dusk and use bug spray sprays before venturing outside.
